Definitions

Client applications are software programs that interact with OpenID Connect servers to authenticate users and obtain tokens for accessing protected resources. They play a crucial role in the authentication ecosystem, enabling secure access to services and data.

Issuers in OpenID Connect are unique authorization servers in specific environments, authenticating various client applications. Each Issuer, as a separate authorization entity, may span multiple servers in a cluster for load balancing and fault tolerance, enhancing authentication efficiency. Importantly, every server within a single Issuer setup shares a unified Issuer URL, ensuring a consistent and secure identification point for all applications.

Software redistribution refers to the inclusion of the Abblix OIDC Server software as a linked library within your product, which can be distributed under specific conditions and obligations. For all the details, please refer to the license agreement.

Dynamic client registration. This protocol allows client applications to dynamically register with authorization servers, facilitating immediate and automated setup. It's essential for environments requiring rapid deployment of numerous clients.

Client Initiated Backchannel Authentication (CIBA) is a flow where clients initiate authentication on a backchannel, ideal when direct interaction is impractical. For example, in a payment app, a user might authenticate a transaction via a notification or SMS on another device, securing the process without needing direct input on the initiating device.

Device authorization mechanism enables non-browser devices, such as smart TVs, appliances, and IoT systems, to perform user authentication through an ancillary web-capable device.

Resource Indicators ensures that access tokens are strictly tied to designated resources, preventing their unintended or malicious use on other resources. This approach helps to mitigate security threats such as token redirection and unauthorized access, safeguarding the confidentiality and integrity of data across various resources.

Pairwise Identifiers (PPID). OpenID Connect utilizes PPIDs to assign a unique identifier for each user-client pair, enhancing privacy by preventing cross-client user tracking, in line with privacy regulations like GDPR.
